Services Provided

Meals on Wheels supports older adults, typically age 60 and above, who have difficulty shopping for, preparing, or accessing nutrituous meals at home. The program delivers freshly prepared meals and can accomodate dietary needs such as low-sodium and diabetic-friendly options.

Beyond meal delivery, volunteers and staff provide:

  • Safety checks to monitor recipients’ well-being
  • Social interaction to help reduce loneliness.

Eligibility

Eligiblity generally focuses on need rather than income. Typical criteria include:

  • Age 60 or older
  • Homebound or limited mobility
  • Difficulty preparing or obtaining meals independently
  • Residene within Jacksonville City Limits

Applications include an in-home assessment. Depending on eligibility and program guidelines, meals may be provided free, on a sliding scale, or with suggested donations; the standard meal cost is $105 per month.
